Brass Letter Opener, Japan, Meiji Period (1868-1911).

A very fine Japanese letter opener / page turner made with excellent repousse design work on the handle; a scene depicting a man with a sun umbrella, dragonfly, birds and flowering bushes. It is made of brass and has an inlay of copper on one side of the handle. The blade is engraved with human figures, birds and trees. The handle is slightly loose at the top (see pictures) but it doesn't interfere with the use or function. The page turner would be lovely displayed on an antique desk.

Length 29 cm - 11.4 inch.
