"Mwana phwevo" mask, Lovale, Zambia.

The Lovale people, also spelled Luvale and also called the Luena or Lwena (in Angola), are an ethnic group in Zambia and Angola.

This is a fine ex Christies "mwana phwevo" mask with carved teeth in the pierced mouth, pierced narrow eyes, cruciform motives to cheeks, pierced around the rim, shiny patina, knotted fibre headcovering and black fible coiffure on MDF / metal base.
