Baboon figure, Bembe, D. R. Congo.

This is a well-carved standing figure of a baboon.

Rising from a round base, short bent legs with round thighs, supporting a cylindrical bowed body of bulky form, covered with incised fur, free carved arms with both hands resting in front of the knees, sloping shoulders merging into a compact neck, crowned by an oval head, a long nose, incised almond-shaped eyes framed by curved ears.

Light brown wood, partly blackened, cracks, slightly dam., slight signs of abrasion, on MDF base.

H: 22 cm - 8.66 inch.
