Brass Gold Dust Box, Ashanti/Akan, Ghana.

Gold was the medium of exchange to the Ashanti economy of West Africa and commercial transactions used gold or gold dust for hundreds of years. Brass boxes were used for storing gold dust.

This is a very fine Ashanti gold dust box, made of brass sheet, of oval form decorated with incised geometric motifs. The spoon was used for measuring out gold dust, the handle features incised designs too.

Gold Dust Box: 8,2 cm long - 3.23 inch.
Gold Dust Spoon: 6,9 cm long - 2.72 inch.

Condition - minor irregularities such as: wear, chips, dents, oxidation.
