Stone Head Club, New Guinea Highlands.
This is an old and rare stone headed club from the highlands of Papua New Guinea. The six pointed star head is fine and very well composed. There is a collection number on the shaft.
Materials: wood, black stone, rattan and rope.
Condition: wear and use, the shaft has a shiny patina, min. dam., cracks (see pictures), the stone has a smooth patina.
Length: 97 cm - 38.2 inch. Wide: 12,5 cm - 4.9 inch.
Provenance: according an expert's the handwriting of the collection number is from W. D. Webster. William Downing Webster (11 May 1868 – 14 January 1913) was a British ethnographic dealer and collector in the 1890s.
