Costumed dolls, Western Pende, D.R. Congo.
These are two small Pende Munganji Spirit dancer figures of very abstract form. Made of light wood with pigment painted faces. Both dressed in traditional tribal outfits with exquisite hand woven raffia fiber. These items are considered guardian spirits of the Mukanda.
Condition: Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. On perspex base.
Both dolls probably from the mid-20th Century, Kinshasa, Zaire.H: 26 cm - 10.2 inch. H: 21,4 cm - 8.4 inch.
