The Caribbean are the largest Indian group living in Suriname. Their pottery is the work of women. From a young age the females are initiated by their mothers and grandmothers into this practice.
This is a fine water vessel. It is made of baked red clay and decorated with simple geometric designs in black and red (engobe).
Condition; General staining, consistent with age and tribal use, no repairs or restoration.
