The Shipibo are one of the largest ethnic groups in the Peruvian Amazon. Shipibo Indians are River Indians living along the banks and tributaries of the Amazon River. These ethnic groups each have their own languages, traditions and culture. The men of the tribe are hunters and gatherers that still practice head hunting. All the textile painting, embroidery, and artisan craft is carried out by the women. From a young age the Shipibo females are initiated by their mothers and grandmothers into this practice.

Nice big water vessel "Olla" with rounded body tapering to a flared rim. The exterior is decorated with simple, early style geometric designs painted in black and orange against a creamy white background.

General staining, consistent with age and tribal use. Small chips and minor paint loss, as is common. No repairs or restoration.
