Sago Bowl, Sepik River Region, Papua New Guinea.

This is an old food serving bowl from the Sepik River Region. The bowl is of elongated oval form, handles in the shape of stylized crocodiles heads on both ends. Flattened at the bottom, incised with name. The shape is copied from that of a canoe; Sepik people also may refer to the body as a canoe for the soul or spirit.

Wood, nice patina of use, slightly dam., cracks….
