Fertility dolls "ikoku", Turkana, Kenya.
Two fine fertility dolls dressed in traditional fashion, representing a Turkana mother with her child on her back, wearing an apron decorated with glass beads, further strings of glass beads worn around the neck, metal earrings, lip plug, both carry a food bowl on their head.
The dolls are carved by the father and decorated by the mother. After having reached puberty, the young girls use them for practicing their later role of motherhood.
Dry wood, mat red patina, skin, glass beads, metal, fibers, min. dam., on MDF base.
Measurements: Height 37 cm = 14.6 inch and 35 cm = 13.8 inch.
